THE DESIGN PROCESS

Planning a new garden is thrilling, but daunting. I’m here to help clients to understand what they want and need from their garden. I’ll listen to how you live and how would like to use your garden.

New gardens all begin with an initial conversation, I can visit for up to an hour- during which we'll discuss your ideas and I'll explain my design process in more detail.

The cost of garden landscaping varies enormously- it can be somewhere between 5% and 20% of the value of your property; but a great garden can increase the value of your home, and in the meantime it will enrich your life.

Once we have agreed to work together a site survey is arranged. For complicated and medium to large gardens we recommend employing a surveyor. We use standard industry contracts to ensure that all parties are protected.

Then the work begins, and the excitement starts to build as we move into the Design and Detail phase:

1. THE CONCEPT AND THE DESIGN

We’ll start by developing a Brief with you, this then leads to the Concept drawing which brings together all of your ideas and hopes for your garden. This is then developed into the Design for your garden.

2. THE DETAIL

Using the Brief, the Concept and the Design we’ll develop the many documents and drawings that will enable your contractor to price and build your garden.

3. THE PLANTING PLAN

Most clients will also require a planting plan for their garden, this is carried out (and charged) as a separate design, the client will receive a scaled copy of the garden indicating plants in their planted location within the garden. They will also receive a plant schedule- this  is a list of the plants, the client can then see to source the plants from nurseries. I will also provide you with a maintenance schedule.
