Town Drive

This town centre garden balances the practicality of a two-car drive with attractive planting and a considered choice of materials. The redesign brought modern formality to this front garden with the reinstatement of the garden path, new stone steps, boundary walls and contemporary trellis.  Two areas of planting were included in the design.

Slim Dutch pavers give the new path texture and interest, they also pick up the colour of the Victorian period tiling at the door threshold, and contrast strikingly with the bespoke buff-coloured sandstone step. Complimentary brick walls with sandstone copping keep the style clean and contemporary with a nod to the properties period style, at the boundary these are topped with contemporary slatted trellis, providing height for privacy and space for climbers. A warm heritage style paver covers the car parking area itself.

This functional space is softened with the inclusion of planting pockets with two climbers, the rose Souvenir du Docteur Jamain, and Clematis ‘Dark Eyes,’ these are supported via tensions wires on the trellis, and a slim planted rill at the side of the path has early spring bulbs and a lavender hedge with Lavendula angustifolia ‘Peter Pan’ .  A new formal bed at the front of the house is planted with tulips and shrubs including Hydrangea ‘Anabelle’ and winter coloured dogwood stems: Cornus sanguinea ‘Winter Beauty’ and Cornus alba ‘sibirica.’
